How Fragile Memory /
Johnny Abush died of AIDS-related
complications. His memorial was held
at the Jewish Workmen’s Circle, and
Rabbi Aviva Goldberg led the service.
His archives were donated to the ONE
Institute in Los Angeles, with local
materials going to The ArQuives (then
known as the Canadian Gay and Lesbian
Archives). His work in recognizing the
importance of documenting and
preserving the stories of queer Jewish
communities has allowed us to rediscover
these histories and to honour them.
