Miriam Smith is a professor of social sciences at York University. Trained as a political scientist, for the past twenty years Smith's scholarship centres on LGBT politics and documenting the history of the Gay Liberation Movement in Canada. Smith discovered the Gay Liberation Movement through reading The Body Politic. Smith discusses the assertion of sexual orientation as an identity in order to secure human rights. Interview conducted on 5 November 2011 by Dr. Nick Mulé.
