Education and Outreach
Since the forming of TMU's first gay organization in 1977, LGBTQ2+ students and their allies have fought against the school’s historically homophobic and transphobic culture through education and outreach efforts such as Jeans Day, the Positive Space Campaign, TMU's Week of Pride, and “Unlearn” buttons.
An early Jeans Day was met with animosity.
A 1992 anti-homophobia pamphlet produced by TMU encourages acceptance of same-sex relationships.
Gay students at TMU were given some extra help in 1995.
In 1997 TMU adopted U of T's Positive Space Campaign.
Documentaries like Stand Together helped keep the history of the gay rights movement alive at TMU.
Group discussions were held to help queer students find their place in TMU and beyond.
RyePRIDE asked students to wear blue jeans on Jeans Day to show support for gay students.
