What Is the Queer Home?

So what is the queer home? 

Coming into this project, I questioned if such a question was a tad bit loaded. I would say that assumption was correct.

Queerness has always been a complex and intersectional matter. As such, this work has not been able to represent all the diverse identities and experiences of queer Toronto. The Queer Home has become an indefinite and exploratory project—an ongoing practice. 

Truthfully, I don’t yet have an answer for what the queer home means to me. But, I did learn what the queer home meant for thousands of Torontonians who have come before me. There was a richness in life, a tenderness in love, and a ferocity in struggle that I’ll never forget.

One can only aspire to carve out a home in their own life with such passion.

I can only hope to try.
