T-shirts quickly became used to advertise magazines, newspapers, bars, and restaurants that catered to the LGBTQ2+ community, or were otherwise “gay friendly.” Queers used these wearable advertisements to broadcast popular meeting places where they could find community and friendship, sex and romance. LGBTQ2+ individuals could claim these spaces as their own, and ultimately use them to explore their own identity.
