Sher Vancouver LGBTQ Friends Society

Sher Vancouver LGBTQ Friends Society or Sher Vancouver is an arts and culture and social service organization for LGBTQ+ South Asians, their friends and families based in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. It was established in 2008 by founder Alex Sangha and co-founders Ash, Josh, and Jaspal Kaur Sangha. Sher Vancouver provides services such as crisis counselling, peer support groups, refugee services and programs tackling racism, homophobia and transphobia.

Under Sher Vancouver, Sher Films produced the short documentary films My Name Was January (2018) and Emergence: Out of the Shadows (2021). For both films, Sher Vancouver qualified to enter the Canadian Screen Awards and were official selections in film festivals such as the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival, KASHISH, Mumbai International Film Festival and Frameline - San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival. In memory of January Marie Lapuz, former Social Coordinator of Sher Vancouver, a youth award was named after her in 2015 to bestow upon youth between 16 to 30 years old who is involved in leadership in the 2SLGBTQ+ community anywhere in the world.

In 2021, Sher Vancouver Podcast was created to provide a safe space for BIPOC 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and allies.
