Fear and falsehood



These clippings from Desi News magazine feature an article by Saleem Syed-Ali titled “Fear and falsehood”.

In the second last paragraph of the first page, Syed-Ali interviews Indra Ramkissoon, the executive director of the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAP/ASAAP). Indra says that “the agency does not have a moral position on sexuality”.

He explains that “When, where, how and with whom sex happens is not our business. Our goal is to educate people about the relative safety of various sexual behaviours and practices, and about the measures they can take to protect themselves and let them make choices based on this knowledge”.

Fighting AIDS together




This clipping from Desi News magazine features an article by Ranvir Sharda titled “Fighting AIDS together” under the “Homeopathy column”.

In this article Sharda mentions a quote from Ahmad Lokhat of the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAP/ASAAP), Lokhat states “Teenagers and youth account for one-third of all HIV cases in India”.

Near the end of the article Sharda asserts “Our society and the leaders of our community must come forward and help educate the youth through sex education. Businessmen should help organisations like ASAP”.

ASAAP's TV Commercials on Gay Men to Air on OMNI 2




In this 2006 newspaper article from the India Journal, Firdaus Ali writes about the two television commercials produced by the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAP/ASAAP). Debuting on OMNI 2, these commercials “aim to address the stigma faced by gay men and men who have sex with men (MSMs) from their families and communities”.

The article goes on to talk more about the work the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention does, interviewing Zavere Tengra, ASAAP’s former MSM outreach coordinator.

Firdaus Ali also interviews Sunil Kalia, an Indo-Canadian filmmaker, who filmed ASAAP’s TV commercials.
