Khush Khayal Newsletter May 1992, Vol. 3, No. 4 & Vol. 4, No. 1

In this May 1992 issue of Khush Khayal newsletter, Anthony is listed under the “Khush Admin. Committee” section on page 2 as the membership co-ordinator.

There is a feature article about the Association for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAP) on page 4 where Anthony is interviewed and pictured on ACT’s “A Safer Sex Generation” poster, in the middle of the article.

Anthony explains how “the presence of a south asian on that poster is indicative of the impact ASAP has managed to make in the two years since its inception”.

Anthony enthusiastically notes that since funding allowed him to take on the role full-time, there is going to be an “intensification of effort”.

An advertisement for the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAP/ASAAP) can be found on page 11.

The Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAP/ASAAP) is listed under the “Group/Publication Directory” section on page 12, with Anthony as the contact.

Anthony Mohamed is featured on this brochure as part of the “What our members say” section. As a representative of the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAP/ASAAP), Anthony affirms “ACN provided information, guidance and support during our initial set-up. It’s been a wonderful resource for all communities”.

He is also featured on the brochure’s cover in the lower middle, and then throughout the brochure as part of a design element and/or group photo.

reclaiming the paki faggot

In this clipping from XTRA! newspaper, Anthony Mohamed (during his time at the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention) is interviewed for a piece called “reclaiming the paki faggot”, written as part of Gordon Bowness’ “bent DISSENT” column.

Anthony asks Bowness “How can South Asians claim pakidom, when they still have difficulties accepting the term ‘South Asian,’ let alone organizing as South Asians?” and “Are (formerly) derogatory words affirming if people choose not to invest them with that affirming power?”, then finally “Why have this discussion in Xtra!?”
