Douglas Stewart (1962 - )
Description
Douglas Stewart is a gay rights activist who has focused much of his energy on working with the Black community, especially as project co-ordinator with the Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention (Black CAP). For Stewart, "Finding language between the covers of a dusty encyclopedia during library time amidst a crowd of noisy classmates inquiring...'what are you doing?' and me lying 'nothing...' knowing full well that from that moment on the word 'homosexual' had significantly altered the way I saw myself."
