I’m located on Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam lands, also known as Vancouver, BC. Born and raised in Singapore, I am of mixed-class and Indonesian and Chinese heritage, the proud ethnic group Nyonya Babas of the Southeast Asias. I am the first Asian trans man to come out in the then gay and lesbian community in Vancouver, BC, 2001, and I am a wizard, a spiritual teacher, artist, goldsmith, writer, and performer. In 2008, I created Happy Tranny Day, the first ever trans celebration in the world, and it became Gender Euphoria Day after. And soon after, calls from various organizations and organizers in New York, Toronto, Australia called to talk about this amazing possibility. And by 2015, TDOV—Trans Day of Visibility—showed up as a new celebration in North America. I have no obvious proof, but many who showed up to the OG event now know that TDOV was clearly the next generation of Happy Tranny Day. Promoting trans happiness was the only mission of Happy Tranny Day. And now, my next production, Queer Spirit Circle and Queer Spirit Fair, has the same mission: spreading queer joy. I have experienced the hatred and oppressiveness of having a multiple intersectional reality, and my spiritual lessons do not spiritually bypass, nor are they socially ignorant or irresponsible. Marginalized folks desire a spiritual connection that is non-colonial, non-appropriative, nor, or should it be inaccessible. I ensure my work is grounded in reality, and still gives folks access to spirit. I am a soul in an Asian human body. I am trans as the English language determines. However, trans is not who I am, nor is my body who I am. I am love, joy, and magic, and so much more. My sole purpose this lifetime is to remind us all that beyond all the constructs of gender, race, and any other divisive situations, like the ongoing woke discussions and fights, we can breathe, pause, look deeply into each other's eyes, open our hearts, and to see each other’s light. To spread our energy in connection with others, and to choose to love more deeply, speak and live more truly to our soul's expression, and to shine, to teach others that we can truly live from choice, love, and joy. I know that the new generation of queers are here to help this planet and the humans evolve into much more love, respect for the earth, joy, and connection to all. In 1988, he was a founding member of AIDS Action Now (AAN), a group formed to raise the public's awareness of AIDS issues through highly public actions and campaigns. In a 1996 letter to AAN supporters, McCaskell explained why continued action was essential. He said: "We need to tell the government that Canadians are concerned about AIDS. We need to remind them that this epidemic is not over. Title A name given to the resource Tim Stevenson (1945 - ) Description An account of the resource The mix of spirituality, politics, and social justice are what makes Tim Stevenson such an important trailblazer for the LGBT community on Canada's west coast. Tim was the first openly gay person ordained by a mainstream Christian denomination in Canada - the United Church of Canada. In 1996, after being elected British Columbia MLA for Vancouver - Burrard, Tim was the first openly gay provincial Cabinet Minister, serving as Deputy Speaker and then Minister of Employment and Investment. In 2002, he was elected to the Vancouver City Council. Prior to his active life in politics, Tim was the minister at St. Paul's United Church in Burnaby. He spent several years in Vancouver's downtown eastside working with the inner city poor while sitting on the board of the First United Church. Tim has also worked in the Philippines and South Africa, where he was involved with liberation organizations working to overcome social injustice. He was also an international observer in the South African elections in 1994. Born and raised in Vancouver, Tim attended the University of British Columbia (BA), Holy Names College in Oakland, CA (MA, Spirituality) and the Vancouver School of Theology (M.Div). Tim also teaches religious studies at Langara College. Tim lives in Vancouver with his long-time partner, Gary Paterson. They have three grown daughters. After moving to Toronto, he helped found the Gay Alliance Toward Equality in 1973, later becoming its President, and co-ordinated the National Gay Election Coalition in 1974. He is also a founding member of the Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights in Ontario, in which he has been active since 1975. There are, I swear to myself, people here from at least twenty countries on six continents - not bad when you consider that there are only about -fifty people, in total, in this particular car. And I can hear the muted ebb and flow of at least a dozen different languages. Music to my ears. Music to my soul. And all these people? They're not killing each other, not like they are in so many countries the whole world over. They're not shooting each other, not chopping off each other's limbs with machetes, not blowing up each other's pubs, cars, or children with bombs, grenades or land mines. They're standing and sitting right here together, respecting each other's sense of privacy, each other's differentness. And me, as a Cree-Canadian with very brown skin? I fit right in.
